Byom is a space to understand yourself. We keep your data collection minimal and your control high:

Your journals, plans, and reflections are private to you.
We never sell your data, and never use it for advertising.
AI features send only the text you submit to Anthropic (Claude) to answer you — and, for voice, to ElevenLabs to read it aloud.
You can edit or delete your content — and your whole account — at any time.

1Who we are

Byom (“Byom”, “we”, “us”) is a holistic wellbeing platform for reflection, mindful living, and personal growth, available at byom.co.in and as our mobile apps. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we handle when you use Byom, why, and the choices you have.

This policy applies to the Byom website and apps. It does not cover third-party services we link to, which have their own privacy policies.

2What we collect

In shortYour account details, the things you choose to write in Byom, a few technical basics, and settings saved on your device.

We only collect what we need to run Byom for you:

Account & sign-in. Your email address and display name, and — if you use Google or Apple sign-in — the basic profile (name, email, avatar) they share with us. We never see or store your password for those providers.
Your profile (“About You”). Anything you optionally add to personalise Byom — bio, age, pronouns, location, education, profession, languages, interests, intentions, challenges, values, and your preferred tone and language. Every one of these fields is optional.
The content you create. Journal entries, plans, day-plans and goals, possessions, the items you work through in Overcome, practice sessions, thought traces, your Tree, guidance tasks, and chat conversations. This is your private content.
Connect messages & calls. If you use Byom Connect, the chat messages and the audio-call connection details exchanged with a professional.
Technical & usage data. Standard information such as your IP address (used to protect our AI features from abuse), device and browser type, and basic interaction data needed to keep the service reliable and secure.
On-device settings.Preferences like your dashboard layout and dismissed tips are stored in your browser’s local storage — on your device, not our servers.

Some of what you write — reflections on your emotions, wellbeing, or life — can be personal and sensitive. We treat it that way. We do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising.

3How we use your data

To provide the features you use and sync your content across your devices.
To personalise your experience when you fill in your “About You” details.
To power AI features you choose to use (see the AI section below).
To keep Byom secure — preventing abuse, spam, and fraud, and rate-limiting our APIs.
To fix problems and improve the product.
To send you notifications you’ve enabled, and to respond when you contact us.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your private content to serve you advertising.

4AI features

In shortThe text you send to an AI feature goes to Anthropic (Claude) to answer you — or, for voice, to ElevenLabs to read it aloud. Nowhere else.

Features that use AI are marked as such in the app. Today they are Chat, Guidance, Trace and the Path, plus the optional AI steps inside Overcome, Decisions, Direction, Organise, Cardboard, Travel and Activities — all powered by Anthropic’s Claudemodels. When you use one of them, the text you submit (for example your question or the item you’re reflecting on) is sent from our servers to Anthropic’s API to generate a response, and the result is shown back to you.

Not every feature is available on every account. If you cannot see one of these in the app, it is not switched on for you — and nothing you write is sent to an AI provider at all.

Anthropic processes this text as our sub-processor to return an answer. Please avoid entering information you would not want processed by a third-party AI service. AI responses are generated automatically and may be inaccurate — they are not professional advice (see our Terms of Service).

Byom’s voice features work the same way with a different provider: when you ask for something to be read aloud, that text is sent from our servers to ElevenLabs to generate the audio.

6Storage & security

In shortYour data is stored on Google Cloud, protected by database access rules and encryption in transit.

Your account and content are stored using Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore). Access is governed by security rules so that, in general, only you can read and write your own content. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), and our servers keep secrets like AI keys server-side, never in your browser.

No online service can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data. If we ever become aware of a breach that affects you, we will act promptly and notify you where required by law.

7How long we keep it

In shortAs long as your account is active. Delete content — or the whole account — in the app, any time.

We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active, so it’s there when you come back. You can delete individual entries, plans, and other content directly in the app at any time.

You can also delete your whole account yourself, from Profile → Settings → Delete account. That removes your personal content and closes your sign-in, immediately and permanently. Three things do not go with it:

A record of any payment you have made.We are required to keep it, so we remove your name, email and account id, and retain only the amount, currency and the payment reference. That reference embeds a short fragment of your account id, because our payment provider’s own records are keyed to it.
Replies you left under other people’s posts in Socialize.Your own posts go, and so does the whole discussion underneath them — and so do the comments you left on other people’s posts elsewhere in Byom. This one kind of reply is not yet reachable by that sweep; we are closing the gap.
Reports another person has filed about your activity in a shared space. We keep these so that a report cannot be erased by the account it concerns.

Everything else — your journals, plans, goals, reflections, traces, practice history, profile and sign-in — is gone.

8Your rights & choices

In shortAccess, correct, export, or delete your data — much of it right inside the app, or by emailing us.

Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal data, including to:

Access the data we hold about you.
Correct it — most of it you can edit directly in your profile and content.
Delete your content, or your whole account — from Profile → Settings.
Export a copy of your data.
Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent.

To exercise any of these, use the in-app controls or email us at support@byom.co.in. These rights are provided under laws such as India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the EU/UK GDPR, and the California CCPA, where they apply to you.

9Children's privacy

In shortByom isn’t intended for children under 13. Younger teens should use it with a parent or guardian.

Byom is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you are under 18, please use Byom with the involvement of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

10A note on wellbeing

In shortByom supports reflection and mindful living — it is not medical or mental-health care.

Byom is a wellbeing and self-reflection tool, not a medical device or a substitute for professional medical, psychological, or crisis care. If you are struggling or in crisis, please reach out to a qualified professional or your local emergency services. See our Terms of Service for more.

11Changes to this policy

In shortIf we make meaningful changes, we’ll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, tell you in the app.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as Byom evolves. When we do, we’ll revise the “last updated” date above, and for significant changes we’ll give you notice within the app. Continuing to use Byom after an update means you accept the revised policy.
